Poetry Friday

They have dared the white republics up the capes of Italy,
They have dashed the Adriatic round the Lion of the Sea,
And the Pope has cast his arms abroad for agony and loss,
And called the kings of Christendom for swords about the Cross.

I'm sure many of you will recognize the above as an excerpt from Chesterton's Lepanto. Friday is traditionally the Poetry Day in the world of blogs, and I wanted to take advantage of this Friday to call attention to the annual Lepanto novena. It begins tomorrow.

The Rosary is such a powerful weapon. Please do join in praying it in these upcoming nine days.

Oh, that's really neat! A Lepanto novena.

Hm. I might have to contest their claim that it's the very best 20th century poem, though. I'd nominate the Four Quartets.
